Teaching philosophy

Erica Lazerow

Soprano Erica Lazerow Davis is known for her beautiful high notes and strong acting. She thrives on helping her students also succeed in their artistic goals. Her students have gone on to UCLA, BYU, Cornish College of the Arts, UCSB, Azusa Pacific University, and CSU Northridge, among others. They have participated in the Santa Clarita Master Chorale's intern program, NATS competitions, the Santa Clarita Choral Educators Association competition. Her students have sung in choirs and musicals at College of the Canyons as well as Valencia, Saugus, West Ranch, Canyon, Hart, and Santa Clarita Christian High Schools and Rancho Pico and Placerita Junior Highs. Ms. Lazerow Davis's previous teaching positions include Antelope Valley College, Ventura College, The Boston Conservatory, USC, the Odyssey Theater Ensemble, and Vibe Performing Arts Studio. She currently teaches at CSU Northridge and College of the Canyons. Ms. Lazerow Davis is a member of the National Association of Teachers of Singing.

Ms.Lazerow Davis is known for her sparkling interpretations and engaging performances. Her opera roles include Lady Macbeth, the Queen of the Night, Gilda, Rosalinda, Tatiana, and Micaela. She has performed with the Independent Opera Company, L.A. Metropolitan Opera, Bellflower Symphony, USC Opera, AVC Opera, Opera in the Ozarks, the Pasadena Lyric Opera, and Operaworks. As an oratorio soloist, she has sung soprano roles throughout southern California. Recent performances include Handel’s Messiah, Bach’s Cantata 80, and Britten’s The Company of Heaven. The song recital is among Ms. Lazerow Davis’s favorite art forms. She has sung recitals throughout the country and enjoys bringing her art to her students in Santa Clarita. Ms. Lazerow has satisfied her love of chamber music with her all-female vocal chamber group Convivia. The group's most recent tour includes performances at the William S. Hart Museum in Newhall, Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, and various churches in the L.A. area. Its first CD was well received, and the women are planning a second CD. Ms. Lazerow Davis has participated in several elite choirs, including the Dallas Symphony Chorus and the Pacific Chorale. She is part of a professional choir that sings every year for High Holidays at Stephen S. Wise Temple.

Ms. Lazerow Davis has bachelor’s degrees from Princeton University and the Boston Conservatory (summa cum laude), and a master’s degree in vocal arts from the University of Southern California. She was recently one of 12 teachers selected from throughout the United States to participate in the NATS Intern Program.
